Leobendorf develops customized climate plan with the support of OwnYourSECAP

The town of Leobendorf is setting a strong example in terms of climate protection and sustainability. As part of the EU-funded project OwnYourSECAP, a municipal climate neutrality roadmap has been developed in collaboration with e7. Following an intensive development phase with several workshops, the final climate plan is due to be adopted in March.

Sustainable energy and climate protection measures at municipal level

The OwnYourSECAP project aims to actively involve municipalities in the design of their Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plans (SECAPs). Cities and municipalities across the EU work together with energy and climate protection experts to develop feasible strategies and define measures for climate protection and climate change adaptation.

Leobendorf is taking a particularly participatory approach here: representatives of the ÖVP, der Grünen and the SPÖ took part in the workshops together with experts and citizens in order to develop a customized strategy for their municipality. This approach is intended to ensure that the plan meets Leobendorf's specific needs and enables the measures to be implemented as effectively as possible.

Concrete measures for a climate-neutral future

The Leobendorf climate plan includes both measures that have already been initiated and long-term goals. Existing projects include the expansion of the renewable energy community, which aims to make a sustainable and regional contribution to the energy transition.

Long-term measures include concepts for traffic calming, which should help to reduce emissions in the municipal area. In addition, work is being done to increase the attractiveness of the town, for example through new leisure facilities such as a swimming pond or a dog walking area. These are intended to offer citizens alternative leisure opportunities within the municipality and thus avoid unnecessary car journeys to neighboring towns.

A roadmap for sustainable community development

With the development of the climate plan, Leobendorf is laying the foundations for a sustainable and climate-friendly future. The close cooperation between politicians, experts and the population is creating a practical and implementable action plan that could establish Leobendorf as a role model for other municipalities. The planned adoption of the climate plan in March marks another important step towards climate neutrality and sustainable municipal development.
