Project description

Werk Möllersdorf is an old industrial site in the centre of Traiskirchen - Möllersdorf. Kallinger Projekte and the non-profit building association Neue Heimat have formed a partnership to develop the site, which includes some historical buildings, into a sustainable and resource-efficient future. A key component of this development project is subsidised housing, which pursues affordable housing as a central goal and thus contributes to social mixing and sustainability. The ‘ResourceRevival’ project is being used as a research project to develop exemplary solutions that will serve as models for future construction projects.

The development programme for the entire site envisages mixed use for commercial, affordable housing, cultural and social purposes. The good infrastructure and connections to Vienna mean that an attractive place to live and work can be expected to emerge in a historic setting with a positive effect on the townscape and urban fabric.

The revitalisation of existing buildings seeks solutions for future use and focuses on the recycling of old building materials such as bricks, concrete and design elements such as doors/gates and windows. In addition, innovative options for unsealing, conservation and recycling of local resources such as rainwater and grey water as well as energy generation from the sun and earth are to be researched and tested for feasibility.

The research team led by e7, an engineering office for energy and environmental technology, is endeavouring to create synergies and co-creative work processes. The BauKarussell co-operative advises with knowledge about the circular construction industry. The landscape architects at grünplan develop concepts for green spaces that incorporate various elements of nature-based solutions, such as solar and green roofs, façade greening and infiltration. The GRÜNSTATTGRAU innovation and research laboratory supports the planning process based on the latest research findings. The architects from X42 are working with the property developers to create the urban planning concept.

The 1-year exploratory project ResourceRevival is funded by the FFG (TIKS 2023).
