Project description

The new living and working space VIO Plaza offer around 3.500 people the opportunity of office areas, shopping, fitness, hotel rooms and modern rental apartments. It is located in the 12th district of Vienna (Schönbrunner Schloßstraße, U4-Station Meidlinger Hauptstraße) and since spring 2022 under construction. E7 was asked to make a CO2-neutrality assessment of the energy supply system for heating, cooling, ventilation, hot water preparation and lighting.

Methodological approach of e7:

  • Determination of useful energy demand by dynamic building simulation (reference-area simulation) for offices, hotel, fitness, shops and gastronomy
  • Operation condition analyses to verify plant dimensioning, identification of potential part-load behavior of HVAC plants, identification of inefficient operation modes, Identification of unnecessary plant components for heating and cooling supply
  • Calculation of final energy demand (electricity and district heating) for heating, cooling, ventilation, hot water preparation and lighting by using seasonal energy efficiency rations and results of the operation condition analyses
  • Development of optimization measures to reduce the final energy demand
  • CO2-emission assessment for the energy supply system using CO2-conversion factors
  • Description of CO2-compensation measures to achieve a CO2-neutral energy supply system
