On the way to Positive Energy Districts in Melk

Project description

The City of Melk has set itself the goal of setting high standards for climate protection and renewable energy resources in current and future urban development areas. Within the framework of the Austrian programme line "Stadt der Zukunft" (City of the Future), two extremely different development areas have now been examined to determine which technical measures, organisational solutions and economic effects can be used to implement Positive Energy Districts. A proactive participation process aimed to convince building owners and investors as well as other stakeholders of the realisation of the Energy Plus concepts. Last but not least, transferable concepts for Positive Energy Districts have been developed for cities in similar situations. These will serve as pioneers for the realisation of future energy showcase districts in other smaller cities.
